Among many temples, historical monuments in Udaipur, Shilpgram sits like a hidden gem in a crown decorated with precious jewels. If you don't include this in your UDAIPUR TOUR PACKAGE, you will be missing the first-hand opportunity to experience the Rajasthani Culture.

In 1989 Rajiv Gandhi inaugurated this place. The residential area sprawls almost 70 acres of land. Shilpgram in Udaipur comprises 26 village houses from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and Rajasthan. It is like a living anthropological museum at the outskirt of Udaipur. It is home to not just Rajasthani traditional art and culture but also to the whole West Indian folk crafts in general.

Things to Do

There are very many things you can do at Shilpgram. From dancing to folk beats with folk dancers to tasting foods cooked with traditional recipes, there are endless opportunities to indulge yourself.

Besides the culinary delight, folk sports like balancing on the ropes, swinging, and walking on the pans will amaze you. You can observe the elegant, elaborate artworks showcased in the exhibitions. Moreover, you must see the detailed mirror works, meticulous beadworks, weaving, pottery, and the villagers' embroidery skills.

In addition to them, paintings of the Maharashtra hut will satisfy your aesthetic sensibility. Besides paintings, take time to check the traditional lost-wax casting works, leather slippers, and Dokras.

Furthermore, if you are deeply involved in knowing about traditional craftsmanship, you have the unique opportunity to learn from the masters. There are workshops where you can understand them.

In addition to that, there is an open-air amphitheatre. The famous Shilpgram Festival takes place here in December. Although, it hasn’t got the popularity it deserves, it is expected that this will one day become one of most famous Places to visit in udaipur.
