As it is a long walk to visit the whole place, one should not forget to take comfortable clothes & shoes. The perfect time to visit Haldighati is from October to March. The temperature is relatively lower at that time of the year. So, one can hope to escape the scorching heat at this time.

Haldighati is one of the most popular places to visit in Udaipur. The place, famous for The Battle of Haldighati, is essentially a mountain pass on the hills of Aravali. It is very close to the Rakt Talai on the Maharana Pratap Stadium Road.

History

Maharana Pratap was the only Rajput ruler of importance who was not swayed by Akbar’s diplomatic manoeuvre of establishing a marital alliance. Neither was he intimidated by his large army. Consequently, the two rulers led forces against each other, resulting in the Battle of Haldighati (1576). Surprisingly, Man Singh I of Amber, a Rajput general, was leading the forces of Akbar against Maharana Pratap.

Who won the Battle of Haldighati?

Although the battle culminated in defeat for the Mewari Rana, Maharana Pratap continued the resistance until his death. Even for the Great Akbar, it was but a pyrrhic victory because of the causality on his side. Rana Pratap evaded the Mughal forces multiple times with his shrewd manoeuvres, befitting for an emperor like him. Eventually, He won the support of close Rajput rulers and tribal kings. The invincible Maharana engaged in valiant guerrilla warfare. Akbar shifted his focus to other parts of Rajputana after 1579. This enabled Rana Pratap to recover a significant portion of his lost territory. However, Chittor and the rest of eastern Mewar was under Mughal control for a long time.

Haldighati Museum

Visitors can take a walk into the pages of history in Maharana Pratap Jayanti Museum. It is a must-visit place at Haldighati in Udaipur. A life-size bronze statue of Maharana Pratap astride on his loyal and favourite horse, Chetak is placed at the entrance. The models on display inside the Museum depict the events of battle as well as Rana’s life in the jungle.

Additionally, some of the models also show the early life of the gallant king. The Museum displays the history of Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh. The Museum also arranges light and sound display on some of the models. Certainly, one would not want to miss that.

Any history lover will relish the opportunity to see the weapons used in the battle that is also on display here. To top that, there is this prodigious library with a collection of 6000 books. It is another one of the reasons why one must include this in UDAIPUR TOUR PACKAGE.
