Tourists can take a walk into the pages of history in Maharana Pratap Smarak, built to commemorate the great deeds of the gallant Maharana Pratap. Arguably, it is one of the most famous Places to visit in udaipur.

In 1948, Bhagwat Singh Mewar constructed the Museum and Memorial as a tribute to Maharana Pratap was with the aid of a public trust. Located in the historical city of Udaipur this is a conscious effort of people to preserve and showcase history to younger generation. A life-size bronze statue of Maharana Pratap astride on his loyal and favourite horse, Chetak is placed at the entrance. This statue is 11 feet high, weighing 7 tonnes.

Maharana Pratap was not swayed by Akbar’s diplomatic manoeuvre of establishing a marital alliance. Neither was he intimidated by his large army. Consequently, the two rulers led forces against each other, resulting in the Battle of Haldighati (1576). However, the battle ended indecisively.

Rana Pratap evaded the Mughal forces multiple times with his shrewd manoeuvres. Eventually, He won the support of close Rajput rulers and tribal kings and engaged in guerrilla warfare. Eventually, Akbar shifted his focus to other parts of Rajputana. This enabled Rana Pratap to recover a substantial portion of his lost territory.

The models on display inside the Museum depict the events of battle as well as Rana’s life in the jungle. Additionally, some of the models also show the early life of the gallant king. The Museum displays the history of Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh. Moreover, one can also see statues of Maharana Pratap's valiant associates, Bhamashah, Hakim Khan Sur, Bhilu Raja and Jhalaman. Furthermore, the Museum trust organises a light and sound show in the evening showcasing the thousand-odd years of rule of Mewar.

In addition to the historical importance of this place, The Maharana Pratap Smarak Trust keep the place neat and clean. As it is located on the top of Moti Margi or Pearl Hill, the view of Fateh Sagar Lake, from top of the hill-top is breath-taking. This has made this a must-include place in your UDAIPUR TOUR PACKAGE.
