Mannargudi Rajagopalaswamy temple is a very famous temple located in Mannargudi town. This town is located in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. The temple has very beautiful art and architecture. Hence, all these things make this temple one of the most famous PLACES TO VISIT IN KUMBAKONAM.

History of the Mannargudi Rajagopalaswamy Temple

The Mannargudi Rajagopalaswamy temple was created during the 6th century AD. The temple was created during the Chola’s dynasty rule. King Kulothunga Chola 1 was a very famous king of the Chola dynasty. He was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. Once upon a time, the king ordered to build a temple in honor of Lord Vishnu.

Not only this, but you will find that various famous Saints are also associated with the temple. One of the famous Saint was Thirumangai Alwar. He visited the temple during the 14th century. After visiting the temple, he wrote different hymns towards the temple.

However, different other rulers also ruled this place. All of them contributed a lot towards the development of the temple. So, different types of renovation and reconstruction work happened during the ruling time of different dynasties.  

 Architecture of the temple
 
The temple has a very beautiful architecture. The whole temple is covered in an area of 23 acres. You will find intricate carvings and sculptures inside the temple.

The main deity of the temple is dedicated to Lord Rajagopalaswamy. You will find a Gopuram or the entrance Tower, when you enter the temple. The entrance Tower consists of different tiers. Each one of the tiers has very beautiful carvings and architecture.

The main Shrine is present inside the center of the temple. There is a temple tank also present inside the temple complex. The Temple Tank is known as Kalyana Theertham. It is believed that whoever is taking a dip in the water will get rid of all the problems.
