Sarangapani temple is a very famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. You will find the temple in the Kumbakonam district of Tamil Nadu. The temple is full of South Indian style and architecture. Among the different PLACES TO VISIT IN KUMBAKONAM, this temple is a very famous one. Along with that, very beautiful carvings and architecture is also followed inside the temple.

Very few temples in India have a reclining Idol of Lord Vishnu. Sarangapani Temple is one of them. A very beautiful Dravidian style architecture is followed inside the temple. There is a tower that is present inside the temple. The tower has a height of 156 feet. You will find that the whole tower has the beautiful architecture of Hindu deities, celestial beings and other mythical creatures. The entrance Tower of the temple is also very beautiful. 

Different mandapams are also present inside the temple. The Mandapams have very advanced engineering and you should look at that. A main Mandap is present inside the temple, which is known as Maha Mandapam. Different pillars support the Maha Mandapam.

Along with this, Sarangapani Temple has very beautiful carvings. You will find carvings on the ceiling of the temple also. There is a temple tank also, which is present inside the temple. Earlier, the temple tank was used for different types of water usage. It is a very popular Temple tank because it is believed that if any person uses the temple tank water, they will get pure. 

Sarangapani Temple history 

Sarangapani temple was constructed during the rule of Chola's dynasty. The Chola dynasty was a very powerful empire. Kulottunga Chola 1 was a very famous ruler of the Chola dynasty. He constructed the very famous Rangat Temple.

However, during the rule of various dynasties, different types of renovation and reconstruction work happened inside the temple. The temple has been named in the name of Lord Sarangapani. It is believed that Lord Sarangapani is the lord of Garuda.

It is also believed that once upon a time, Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Sarangapani. He saved a sage from a demon's attack. The sage was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu, and the sage has done intense penance in the forest. So when the demon attacked the sage, Lord Vishnu helped the sage.

The inner sanctum sanctorum present inside the temple is dedicated to Lord Sharang Pani. The main idol is made up of black stone, depicted in a reclining position. The idol is placed on the back of the bird Garuda.

This temple has been considered one of the 108 Divya desams. Different types of festivals are also done inside the temple. Brahmotsavam festival is a very famous one.
