Sri Naganathaswamy Temple
One of the nine famous Navagraha temples is the Sri Naganathaswamy Temple (Ketu). It is in Keezhaperumpallam, 22 km from Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu and close to the Cauvery Delta area of Thanjavur. It is a well-known temple for Ketu Dosha Parihara Kshetra. Saint Appar built it more than a thousand years ago as a Vaipu Sthalam. Places to visit in Kumbakonam include this sacred shrine, which attracts numerous devotees and tourists alike.
What is the History and Architecture of the Temple?
People say that Snake Vasuki was used as a rope to stir up the Milk Ocean so that Amirtham could get the nectar. The snake got tired after doing this repeatedly, so it started spewing out the poison. Lord Shiva – Neelakantan ate the poison to save the whole world. Vasuki felt terrible about making Lord Siva uncomfortable and wanted to make up for it. This is why it began to pray here.
The Hindu god Shiva blessed Vasuki and told her how great her work was. Vasuki asked Lord Siva always to be here and bless the people who worship him. Lord Shiva is also famous as the Naga Nathar because he met the snake Nagam and had a look at it.
What is the Significance of Sri Naganathaswamy Temple?
People come to this temple to get rid of Doshas, which are the harmful effects of Ketu. Rahu and Ketu are popular as the Shadow Planets of Mercury. He is in this temple, facing west, with the head of a five-headed snake and a person's body. He appears in a position of prayer, praying to Lord Shiva.
People pray to this building so that their children can learn well and so that everyone can see the right way to live. The temple encourages people with a wide range of health problems, such as stomach problems, to pray here. Many Kumbakonam tour packages include this temple, making it a must-visit for spiritual and wellness seekers.
There isn't a separate shrine for Navagrahams because Ketu is the most important planet in this temple. But there is one statue of Sani and two of Sun. Every day, priests say a special prayer for Nagadhosam—Doshas and the issues connected to them here. It is one of the most important places for Ketu Bhagavan.
