History of Sangeet Mahal

As Thanjavur had a great history of music from the Nayak dynasty. Raghunatha Nayak was a very famous king of the Nayak dynasty. He ruled the place Thanjavur from the year 1600 to 1634. The king also encouraged music and art to a great extent at this place. 

Dravidian style architecture is followed in this mahal. You will see very various sculptures and architectural designs at this place. 

After several reconstructions, this palace was constructed into a government office in the 19th century. Later, in the 20th century, it was converted into a museum.
