There are various beautiful places to visit in Thanjavur. Among them, Thanjavur palace defines its glory uniquely.

The Nayak rulers built the palace. Later it was added by the Maratha rulers. This palace is one of the most beautiful places you should visit. The palace is well known for its building architecture. 

Thanjavur Palace was constructed in 1855 to store weapons and watch enemies. There is a bell tower present in the palace. The building is present in the northwest of the Arsenal towel. The total area of the palace is 25 acres. All the different structures of the palace are- Saraswathi mahal library, Durbar hall, Royal Museum, and many more. 

Best time to visit

Wintertime is the best time to visit the temple. From November to February, winter will be there in Thanjavur. Traveling during summer will not be recommended because the temperature will be really hot. Also, weighty rainfall happens during the monsoon season, so it will be challenging to travel. 

History of Thanjavur palace 

The palace should be added to your Thanjavur tour package because of its fantastic architecture and beauty. There is a garden in the castle. The garden is known as the Sangeetha Mahal garden. Here, various performances were done at that time. 

The palace was built by Nayaka kings during the 1530s. After some time, Thanjavur Marathas started ruling the place and the palace also. The Marathas were such great rulers that they ruled the place till the time the Britishers came.

The palace is known by another name called the "Tanjore palace." 

The bell tower is a very famous part of the palace, which was used to find the time in that era. A clock was present on the top of the tower. People were able to find the time by listening to the gong strike sound. 

The art gallery of the palace is again another beautiful place to visit. There are various beautiful wall sculptures here. The famous art present here are- Stucco art view, lord shiva Parvati sculpture, coins, and a lot more. 

Saraswati Mahel was a very priceless library of that time. The library has more than 73,000 books and 73,000 books. You can find here books on various domains.

The main hall in the palace was the Durbar hall. Here all the performances were done.
