History of Schwartz Church
During the 18th century, Friedrich Schwartz arrived in India from the Danish-Halle Mission. After coming to India, he started spreading the beautiful message of Christianity. After a long time, in 1779, he started the construction of a church. The whole church underwent several reconstructions. In this church only, Schwartz taught to the local students for a whole lifetime.
Spreading the popularity of Christianity in and around Thanjavur, Schwartz plays a very important role.
Schwartz Church is also famous because, in the year 1799, this church signed a treaty with the British East India company also. In that treaty, the church helped the British company in gaining dominance in the Southern part of India.
The architecture of the church
Schwartz Church is built with very beautiful architecture. The church is following Indian architecture while creating it. Along with this, two small towers are used in this church.
Inside the Church, Tall columns are used to support the roof. The towers of the church follow Dravidian style architecture. There are six bells hushed in the tower.
