History of Thiruvarur

Thiruvarur is a famous city which was ruled by various dynasty. The different dynasties that ruled this place where Cholas, Pandyas, and Vijayanagar. All these dynasty's contributed to the development of the temples in the City.  The city showed a high level of development during the Cholas rule. Various temples where created with great artistic view and architecture during this time. One of the famous temples of that time is Sri Rajagopalaswamy Temple.

The Nayak dynasty was famous for the great architecture and design they were building during the ruling period. They contributed for various re-developments that happen during that era.

Nachiyar Koil is a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.  This temple is considered as one of the Divyadesams  out of the total 108.

5. Sattanathaswamy Temple

This temple is located on the banks of Cauveri river. Various people from all over the world are coming to this holy Temple to see blessings from Lord  Shiva. 

6. Koothanur Maha Saraswati Temple

Koothanur Maha Saraswati Temple is a famous temple dedicated to godeess  Saraswati. In the temple you can see the goddess Saraswati sitting on a beautiful lotus flower. She is even holding Japamala from one hand and a part of Nectar from the other hand. As we all know that goddess Saraswati is known as the Goddess of knowledge, so you can seek blessing for knowledge and education in this Temple.
