Bejai Museum History
The museum was founded in 4th May, 1960. The then chief minister Sri B.D. Jatti was the founder. Being the only museum of the Mangalore, it attracts the tourists a lot.
The collector of the museum is Col. V.R Mirajkar. The museum was actually his own house. That he donated later to Karnataka. The name Srimanthi Bhai Memorial is given to pay tribute to his mother.
Bejai Museum Collection
The museum has varieties of collections of arts crafts, utensils, masks that represent the lifestyle and culture of olden times. Besides that some interesting collections of this museum are Tulunadu’s idol of Bootharathane, vintage stone tools of Paleolithic and Neolithic era, replicas of famous Harappa and Mahenjodaro.
A great collection of paintings is another attraction of this museum. The paintings are mostly portraits and contemporary scenes. There are a whole lot of paintings to tribute for collectors.
The collector had some rare photographs of Gandhiji. And that is exhibited in Gandhiji’s Photo Gallery. The photos are depicting the whole life story of Gandhiji.
