Jamalabad Fort, also known as “Jamalagadda” and “Gadaikallu”, included in the Mangalore tour packages. It is a hilltop Fort. This Fort is located in the Kudremukh. There are several ancient places to visit in Mangalore, Jamalabad is one of them.

Jamalabad fort history

Gadaikallu Fort was built in 1794 by Tipu Sultan. (named “Jamalabee”). Tipu Sultan got impressed by the Granitic Rocks and decided to build a fort. These rocks were strong enough for the construction of a fort.

To store rainwater inside the Fort, a tank is there. The new fort was on the remains of the older one. At the top, there has remaining of Canon. There's nothing still visible except the Fort walls with Parapets.

Britishers captured this fort later. It happened during the 4th Mysore War in the year 1799. Today we can find only the ruined structure of this beautiful fort.

Gadaikallu steps

The fort can be reached by a very narrow path with stairs. It has a total of 1876 steps, called Gadaikallu Steps. These steps made up of the Granite hill. Among the various places to visit in Mangalore, Tourists can enjoy trekking at this Fort.

Due to its height and these narrow stairs, this fort has become a trekking destination among the Indeed, This trek is known as ‘Medium Difficulty Level’. The top structure offers an awesome view of the surrounding hill and landscape.

Besides that while entering there's a check post at the base of the hill. Visitors have to pay entry fees to enter. From October to April, this time period is the best time to visit Jamalabad fort trekking. The people visiting Mangalore must get this trekking experience indeed.
