The Portuguese built the Madh Fort in the 17th century. It is a secluded coastal fort in Mumbai that is popular for its historical significance and scenic views. A small piece of land in northern Mumbai separates itself from the rest of the city. People call it Madh Island.

Madh Island is the best place to stay in Mumbai if you want to escape city life's stress. This tiny island is a very popular place to visit in Mumbai and can be reached by car, bus, or train. It has some of the best properties in Malad and is easy to get to.

Madh Island is a popular weekend getaway destination. It offers great fish, sunshine, and a sea breeze. Located about 30 kilometres from Mumbai, between the Arabian Sea and Malad Creek, Madh Island is a great place for people who want to do something different. It is also a pleasant treat for tourists, with its mix of beautiful Portuguese architecture from the 1600s and colourful and charming Koli towns and forts.

Madh Island offers a very relaxing experience. Here, people can observe the slow-paced life of farming and fishing. You can still see fishermen drying their catch on the shore, making it a unique stop for those exploring Mumbai tour packages.

Madh Fort Historical Background

Versova Fort is another name for Madh Fort. The Portuguese built this fort beside our Malad lodge in the Madh Islands. The Maratha Empire took it over after the fight in 1739. Because it's usually hard to get there, our Malad Lodge is the best place to stay if you want to see the Madh Fort.

The fort watches over Marve Creek and has a good ocean view. Its interior is destroyed beyond repair, but its exterior remains intact. The Indian Air Force now controls this area, which is close to our Malad resort and surrounded by fishing villages.

Accessibility and Restrictions

This fort, which is close to the Kileshwar Mahadev Mandir, has been the setting for many TV shows and movies, from CID to Khalnayak and Baazigar. It only takes 10 minutes to get to the fort from our Malad lodge. In the 17th century, the Portuguese built this impressive fort. You can take beautiful pictures of it and the city skyline from here.

First thing in the morning, the view from the fort is beautiful. You can't quickly get to this spot unless you are staying at The Retreat Hotel & Convention Centre, one of Malad's best resorts. From time to time, you'll see different fishing boats. When you get close to them, you'll see them bring the fish to the Madh Fort dock.

Best time to explore

Between October and June is the best time to visit Madh Island and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The weather is very nice at this time, with temperatures between 26°C and 31°C and no heat that comes with living near the coast.
