Among the many other places to visit in Shimla, The Arki Fort is one of the gems of Himachal Pradesh. Rana Prithvi Singh built this. This fort is a mixture of Mughal and Rajputana style. It is beautifully Pahari style paintings with a touch of curve. This is one of the most popular tourist spots.
The Fort is said to be captured by Gurkhas in 1806. Gurkha general Amar Singh Thapa used Arki as his iron –grip to further invade Himachal Pradesh. Arki was the capital of Baghal. Rana Shiv Sharan Singh established Diwankhana of Arki palace.
The fate of Arki Fort
Arki Fort is now one of the popular wreck. The property now belongs to the descendants of the past rulers. The part of the fort which is in good condition is converted into a heritage resort. Some part of the fort is for the residence of the Royal family.
