The Himachal state museum is located at the museum road, near the Doordarshan Kendra, Chaura Maidan at Shimla in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The museum was opened for the first time in 1974. It is one of the best places to visit in Shimla.

The Himachal state museum was in Victorian mansion ‘Inverarm’ which is very old. That was a small mud hut in early 1860. That was owned by  Sirmour’s ruler. later. In 1973, the building, changed to, Himachal State museum.

The museum is located at a distance of 2.5 km from the Scandal point. The museum consists of a grand collection of age-old historical sculptures. That can trace back in time, coins, paintings, and photographs collected from all over the state as well as the country.

The museum has a library in which it is assumed to have more than 10,000 books, journals magazines. In the sculpture gallery, it has metal, wooden and stone sculptures from the past.

You can also see several Mughal paintings inside the museum that is on display. The painting section of the museum is famous for the Pahadi and Rajasthani miniature paintings. It is one of the best places to visit in Shimla.

The museum is open to all every day from 10 am in the morning to 1:30 pm in the afternoon and 2 pm to 5:30 pm in the evening except for Monday and other national Holidays.
