The Hatkoti Temple is located at the state highway -10 at the Hatkoti in the Himachal Pradesh. The location of the temple is at a distance of something 100 km from Shimla at the banks of the river Pabar. It is one of the famous places to visit in Shimla.

The Hatkoti Temple is the abode of the Devi Durga in her reincarnated form of Mahisasurmardini. Therefore Hatkoti Temple is the famous pilgrimage in Himachal Pradesh and is famous among the tourists for its mythological backdrop. SHIMLA TOUR PACKAGES must include this place.

Besides that, the deity is 1.2 metres in height and it made with ‘Ashtadhatu’ , a unique combination of eight metals. The idol of the Devi represents the goddess with ten arms carrying ten weapons in her arms, riding a lion, and annihilating the demon Mahisasura.

The idol is in scripted with some spells that nobody has been able to decode it according to believe of the common people and so on. The temple has a separate section which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. 

The temple also has five idols of the five Pandava brothers from the Hindu Mythology, Mahabharat. All five idols has arranged according to their heights.

Hatkoti temple architecture style

The temple upholds the beautiful architecture from the era of the Gupta in the Indian History. It was built somewhat between the sixth to ninth centuries. Besides that, the temple is in the classical shikhara or tower-style that depicts the ancient structure which was narrow or cone-shaped at the top with a broad base at the bottom.

The design of the walls of the temple, designed sculptures speaks loudly of the architectural designs of the eras indeed. That can be date back to the history used to construct.

Hatkoti Temple history

The Hatkeshwari Mata temple is the focal point in the Hatkoti village. The Hatkeshwari Mata is none but Devi Durga Mata. According to the legends, it is a faith that an austere girl. For settling down at the place to meditate and vanished with the intensity of her meditation.

After she got vanished, a stone idol was found at that particular spot. Therefore as per the common people residing there, the girl have been the incarnation of the Devi Durga and the idol was sanctified as Hatkeshwari. Truly it is one of the holiest places to visit in Shimla.
