Counting back to the 20th century, when the foundation of narrow-gauge Kalka-Shimla Railway carried out by Colonel Barog, he initiated digging the tunnel from both ends of the mountain. While constructing the tunnel, some mistakes in the calculation took place, due to which two ends of the tunnel did not meet.
As a punishment for this act, the British Government declared fine for him. He was feeling so humiliated by the incident that he committed suicide. His body, buried at a place close to the incomplete tunnel and thus this area was popular with this name.
