Tara Devi temple is located near the national highway-22 (Shoghi Bypass), at KachiGhati. The shrine is located in the middle of a thick oak forest and rhododendron. That gives a serene view of the lofty Himalayan range that surmounts. This is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Shimla.

According to the myths, Goddess Tara came from West Bengal to Shimla. And hence, the temple is famous as Tara Devi. It is a famous tourist spot and popular for its cleanliness, atmosphere and fresh air. That will help you release the tensions of daily life.

History of the Tara Devi Temple, Shimla

There is a history of this Temple in time of 250 years ago. Then Goddess Tara, the God of Stars came all the way long from West Bengal to Himachal Pradesh. There is a belief that an elephant carried the Deity from West Bengal to Himachal Pradesh.

The Temple is located at a height of 1851 meters above the sea-level. The idol of Devi Tara is carved out of Ashtadhatu. That is an amalgamation of 8 metals by a Gusanwu artist. History says that Raja Balbir Sen build this temple and it is one of the holy places to visit in Shimla.

Every year an annual fair is held in the temple complex on the 8th day of Navratri. Thousands of devotees come to seek blessings from Devi Tara. And also the heirs of the Sen Dynasty still come to the temple and offer prayers and seek blessings. SHIMLA TOUR PACKAGES must include it.
