Hawa Mahal is also very famous as ¨The Palace of Breeze¨ or ¨The palace of the Winds¨. As the name suggests, the palace is very airy. There are a number of windows through which the soothing breeze passes.

History of Hawa Mahal

The Hawa Mahal looks so amazing and young but its history lies years ago. Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh had built this amazing monument in the year 1799. The basic attraction of this place is its Honey-comb shape window which is very popular as ¨Jharokhas¨.

There are a total of 953 Jharokhas in this splendid Mahal. The Jharokhas had specially made in such a way that it can let the breeze pass throughout and remain airy indeed.

The Hawa Mahal had actually built as an extension of the royal City Palace of Jaipur. There was a tradition that the women of the royal family. That nobody should be seen by the people. Hence they used these Jharokhas to participate in the royal possessions from a distance.
