Held on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, the International Kite Festival is one of the biggest festivals in Jaipur. Numerous flamboyant and vibrant colored kites have seen to fly high in the polo ground of the Jaipur. There is a belief that the higher the kite rise in the sky, the higher is the prosperity.

The International Kite Festival held on a regular basis in January each year. The tunes of music along with beautiful dancers add to the beauty of the festival. People from different corners of India try and attend the festival at least once in a lifetime.

History of the festival

Makar Sankranti is the official ending to the winter season and the beginning of the warm and hot summer. Back in the old times, people spent their days by soaking the rays of the sun in order to avoid infections, germs, and so on.

Eventually, on this particular day, people are getting engaged in the recreational activity of flying kites. Slowly, this tradition evolved so much that the day has marked by kite flying tournaments.
