Currently, the Jantar Mantar is non-working and it has used only as a Historical Monument. It is also used as an educational activity center and guided tours. This famous historical place also offers a light and sound show for the tourists. There are several stone assemblies or instruments which had used to interpret the position of celestial bodies and also to calculate the time.

History of the Jantar Mantar Jaipur

The Jantar Mantar of Jaipur has the architecture and the astronomical instruments from the time when Jaipur had ruled by the Rajputs. This monument was finally completed in 1734. It got its name from the Sanskrit word ¨Yantra¨ which means a machine or instrument. Therefore, Jantar Mantar literally means ¨the instrument used for calculations¨.

In 1948, after the British Rule, the Jantar Mantar of Jaipur had a declared as a National Monument indeed. Since 1968, as a National Monument of Rajasthan, it has been protected.
