The tranquil hill station named Devarayana durga or DD is one of the top places to visit near Bangalore. The name Devarayana durga translates to the phrase ‘the fort of God’. The place is located at Tumkur, a small district in the state of Karnataka.

Located at an elevation of around 4000 feet high; Devarayana durga is a perfect weekend destination. Surrounded by the lush greens and discovering the hilly terrains. The place is known for its history and spiritual significance. There are many architecturally designed temples to witness at this place. The area of industrialization remains untouched. The serenity of nature prevails over the place.

Devarayana durga temple

This place has mythological importance. It is believed that the Lord of all lords; the creator of the universe; the Brahma performed a penance for a long time in the name of Vishnu. This kept on happening for several years. Impressed by his penance, Vishnu incarnated himself to become Lord Narasimha. The transformation happened in this place.

Bhoga Narasimha Temple

The temple is located at the base of the hillock; in the deity’s name Lord Narasimha. The artistically designed Devarayana durga temple is an architectural monument in Dravidian style facing east direction.

This temple visited by the people to witness the belief and be a part of the puja ceremony. There are various books to describe the importance of this temple. The sacred water runs through the idol of the Lord Narasimha, experienced at the shrine premises.

Yoga Narasimha Temple

An avatar of Lord Narasimha worshipped at the temple at Devarayana durga. You'll find the temple after climbing stairs of around 100 steps at the hilltop. The greenery and the scenic beauty are extravagant here.

Lakshmi Temple

You will find a beautiful Lakshmi goddess temple near the Devarayana durga, named Goravanahalli Lakshmi. The locals walk around 22 kilometers to go to the temple. 
Devarayana durga fort

The Cholas built the Dravidian styled Devarayana durga fort which is 2000 years old. Tt offered a spectacular excellence to work in their residence. This is now an old architectural fort at the place.
 
There are many footprints of the kings, observed in this region. The trekkers do stop by here to enjoy the charm of ancient old Devarayana durga fort.

Devarayana durga jatre

In addition, there are two festivals along with Devarayana durga jatre takes place which are;

Car festival - In the month of February and March, you will observe an annual car festival at the Bhoganarasimha temple. The chariot of the Lord Narasimha decorated for performing certain rituals and religious ceremonies.

Naramsimha Jayanti - Moreover, another auspicious celebration takes place on the event of Lord Vishnu’s incarnation to Lord Narasimha. In May, the ritual called Giri Pradakshine, celebrated to illustrate gratefulness to the lord. The devotees take care of it completely.

There you will find food served by the devotees including jaggery slurp and butter milk. Everyone enjoys the mythological importance and myths.
