The popular pilgrim centre, Mudukuthore is placed on the banks of the River Kaveri. There is a small village with a surrounding of small hill called Somagiri. This place is located around 25 kilometers from the Somanathapura, 48 kilometers from the Mysore and very close to the place named Talakad. It is very popular in the name for worshipping the Lord Mallikarjuna.
Mudukuthore Jatre
Mudukuthore Jatre is the celebration which is grandly observed once in every 12 years. The week-long agricultural products are displayed at the fair. The cattle product and a huge number of agricultural products are traded during this time. Numerous devotes witness this Jatre and be a part of it. This big festival fair is observed from January to February months.
The work Mudukuthore means ‘turn and flower forward’. This is named as the beautiful flowing of River Kaveri takes a turn while continuing with the journey. The most popular Mudukuthore Mallikarjuna is one of the temples among the five temples at Talakad.
It is surrounded by the other four temples of the Panchalinga Darshana. Lord Shiva is largely worshipped here from time to time. The Panchalinga Darshana takes place once in every 12 years of time. The exact date is decided based on the astrological calculations. It is the most desired places to visit near Bangalore.
As per the mythology, it is believed that Arjuna, one of the brave Pandavas, installed a Shiva Linga here and offered puja with the Jasmine flower. Thus, the place is named as Mallikarjuna.
The chief sanctum house of the Shiva Linga shrine is well decorated. The walls have amazing frescoes on it which depict the scenes from the historical importance. There are two Nandis (bull) at the courtyard along with a tall Deepasthamba.
Beside the temple, there is another shrine dedicated to the name of the Bhramarambha Devi. Along with this, there is a small pathway which further leads to the Bettali Marammma temple. You can take a coracle to the river cross and ten reach the place, Jaladhama Resort. There are amazing water activities observed here.
