The most beautiful location Mekedatu is situated at the Kanakapura of Bangalore. It is in the district of Ramanagara, which is 100 kilometres far from the city of Bangalore. There is a slender stretch of land with bottomless gorges is observed named Mekedatu. This is perfect one day trip from Bangalore destinations where you can go by car and come back by evening.
 
The word Mekedatu translates into ‘Meke’ which means ‘Goat’ and ‘Datu’ which means ‘to cross’. In short, it is called ‘Goat’s leap’. The ancient localites tell a mystic and magical story behind its creation.

It is said that once a tiger tried to encounter a goat. The goat had to jump from one side of the cliff to the other to save his life. Finally, the goat made his mind and jumped off the gorge. Seeing that, the tiger did not chase him anymore and went away from the other side of it. This incident made the locals call the place by the name of Mekedatu. People started believing this story from ancient times.

The gentle winds blow off hastily with the swift-flowing of the river here and there colliding with each other is a fantastic view to witness.  You will find yourself to be completely in solace. The smoothened river accomplishes itself from flowing through the diversified location making a way out of its own. If you planning for a trek, it is a great location to explore!

Mekedatu Dam

Mekedatu Dam is build at the confluence of the Cauvery and the Arkavathi River near the Kanakapura area. It is located at a distance of 110 kilometres from Bangalore. The main motive to build this was to decrease the water problem of the Bengaluru.

Mekedatu falls

Mekedatu falls is well-connected to the Sangama, which is a combination of the two most auspicious rivers: the Kaveri and Arkavati. The water passes through the gorges, which are 10 meters in width and depth. During the rainy season, it is very difficult to hike or trek in this area. That is why it is better to visit around November or December of any year.
