The most amazing artificial lake Kanva Reservoir or Kanva Dam is located at a distance of 63.2 kilometers from the city of Bangalore. It is a famous spot for witnessing the gorgeousness of the sunsets, bird watching, weekend trips or one day trip from Bangalore. It is a perfect location to explore fishing.

Kanva Reservoir/ Dam built across the river of Kanva for around 15 kilometers. It covers larger area around 776 hectares of the land built in the year 1946. The usefulness of this artificial lake was built on the vision to set irrigation projects. Later, the loveliness of the place turned it into a wonderful location. Be it bird catching or even adventurous trekking or camping this location has been very popular among the travelers.

The Kanva River is basically a tributary to the grand river of Cauvery.  Sage Kanva Maharshi, lived in the caves of the mountains and forests near to this place, as mentioned in Ramayana hence it is named as Kanva. Near to the fishing of the dam, there is a large fishery training center. Away to this is a dedicated Purushothama Tirtha Gavi temple which is around 3 kilometers to the Kanva Reservoir.

Who built Kanva dam

This is often not known by people; the Kanva Dam is engineered by the Siphon Dam designed to serve the upstream here. Both the Kanva and Markonahalli dams were built to organize the Siphon Spillway flood arrangement chiefly designed by Sir M Vishweshwarayya in the year 1940s.
