History of Naina Devi Temple

The Naina Devi Temple is one of Nainital's most visited tourist attractions. It first appears in writing around the Kushan era or the 15th century (AD). The idol is thought to have been created in 1842 by a worshiper named Moti Ram Shah. Later, it was destroyed in a landslide in 1880. The temple was constructed in 1883 because of the intense devotion of people to the Goddess.  Since then, according to the inhabitants, the Goddess has protected them from all kinds of disasters.
