Nainital Lake

Nainital lake is also quite popular as Naini lake and it is a fresh water lake. The hill station is among one of the most beautiful places to visit in Nainital. History

The Tririshi Sarovar is referenced in Hindu writings like the Skanda Purana. It is assumed it represents Nainital Lake. The three great sages, Atri, Pulastya, and Pulaha, who used to meditate here, gave this place its name. The three of them dug a hole, which quickly filled with water and became known as Tririshi Sarovar or Naini Lake. 

A European businessman named P. Barron accidentally discovered Naini Lake in 1839. According to historical documents, he was enthralled by its beauty during a hunting expedition. He, therefore, decided to establish a European settlement as an Englishmen's summer vacation destination on the lake's beaches.
