Known by many as Governor House, Raj Bhawan is a building from the British era that currently houses the governor of Uttarakhand—previously used as the summer palace of British Governors. Raj Bhawan in Nainital is famous for its exquisite appearance and beautiful old-world architecture. The Governor House, also known as Raj Bhawan, is in a beautiful setting and covers a sizable area—a must-be exploring place among Nainital tour packages

History of Raj Bhawan

The description of the Governor House's structural architecture is "the early domestic Gothic style" with expertise. The six castellated turrets dominate the front feature. It is now possible because of removing the steep pinnacles that had previously capped them. A typical result is a lack of vitality, hardness, and dignity.

The most appealing aspect is the rearview, resembling an English country house. The most common material is a localized dark gray marble. A mixture of local dolomite limestone created the internal cross walls. Part of the reason for choosing Agra red sandstone was the significant usage of Naloina freestone on the outside.

Teak wood was the material of choice for the dining room, doors, windows, and floors of the Governor House. English glass, tiles, brass fixtures, and iron pipes were used. Agra masons did the ashlar stonework, while Punjabi carpenters completed the woodwork.

Sarojini Naidu was Uttar Pradesh's first governor (now a part of Uttarakhand) to live in this historic monument when the state gained its freedom. This beautiful location draws many people because of its lush green gardens, oak, and deodar trees.

Architecture

Constructed in 1897, the Raj Bhawan is a castle in the Scottish style. It spans 205 acres and features a golf course, swimming pool, and garden. After independence, it became famous as Raj Bhawan and had a Gothic design. British VIPs and guests occupied the 113-room, two-story building during summer travels to Nainital. The historic monument attracts tourists with lush green gardens and Deodar and Oak trees. It is worth visiting among the places to visit in Nainital, especially if you love history.
