One of the most important buildings in Tirupati is the Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple, which is right in the middle of the city. It's a great spot to see in Tirupati city. The Govindaraja Swamy Temple is one of Tirupati's best places to visit.

Many people come to this temple, the biggest in Tirupati town. The abhisekhas are small figures because the central statue is made of sand. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam board is in charge of this temple. The temple is worth visiting during the Tirupati tour package.

Govindaraja Swamy Temple History

Sri Parthasarathi was the main god in the first temple. In 1130 AD, Sri Ramanuja added the Sri Govindaraja god. The Yadavaraya Dynasty gave many gifts to decorate the chariot and make repairs to the needed buildings. In 1506 AD, when the Vijayanagara Dynasty was in power, the temple became more critical. From then on, different rulers improved the temple in various ways.

Architecture

This famous temple in Tirupati is a fantastic example of how South Indian buildings used to be. It has a beautiful entrance, famous as a Gopura. There is one at the entrance and one inside the temple. The Gopura in the middle of one of them is the oldest.

The temple has existed since the 1400s. It also has carvings of pictures from the Ramayana and Lord Krishna's era. The temple has two main statutes of God: one of Lord Vishnu and another of Lord Krishna.

Sri Govindaraja is the shrine to the north, and Sri Parthasarathi (Lord Krishna) is the shrine to the south. Here, you can also find the statues of Rukmini and Satyabhama.

Tourists can see Sri Govindaraja Swamy, the ruling god, lying on Ananta. People see him as Lord Venkateswara's brother. Govindaraja Swamy took care of a considerable amount of money that King Kubera lent for Lord Venkateswara and Padmavathi Devi's wedding.
He wisely used this wealth to arrange one of the most beautiful marriages in legend. Because of this, people consider Govindaraja Swamy as the god who can help you get rich and handle your money well once you do.
