The Sri Kodandarama Swamy Temple is a beautiful example of dedication and masterful construction in the middle of Tirupati. A Chola king created this holy home in the eleventh century AD. It is in honour of Lord Sri Rama, who is with Sita Devi and Lakshmana Swamy. The temple has a beautiful design and is one of the best places to visit in Tirupati.
One of the shrines in the temple complex is for Anjaneya Swami. There are also statues for Sita Devi and Lakshmana. Many visit this holy place year-round to see the elaborate ceremonies and events. The Kodandarama Swamy Temple is a must-visit during the Tirupati tour package.
Kodandarama Swamy Temple History
On their way back from Lankapuri in the Treta Yuga, Lord Sri Rama, Sita Devi, and Lakshmana are said to have bestowed the holy presence upon Tirupati. When the Chola kingdom learned this place was divine in the tenth century AD, they built the Kodandarama Temple. The temple has been fixed up many times over the years. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Board now maintains it.
Festivals at the temple
The Sri Kodandarama Swamy Temple offers intense joy and happiness during religious events and festivals. The happy celebrations of Ugadi and Sri Ramanavami happen on the temple grounds with much pomp and circumstance. Every year, for nine days in March or April, many people come to the Brahmotsavam celebration to participate in complicated rituals and processions.
Many religious people attend the temple to participate in profoundly spiritual and time-honoured events and rites. The temple holds special events on Sri Rama Navami called Hanumantha Vahana Seva to honour the divine presence of Lord Sri Rama.
On Dashami, the holy wedding of Sri Rama and Sita Devi is famous as Sri Sita Rama Kalyanam. On the wedding day, many events happen in the temple. But on Ekadasi, a ceremony called Sri Rama Pattabhishekam Mahotsavam crowns Sri Rama.
