History
According to old writings, the Lord Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala was difficult to reach. So, in the 8th century, the Pallavas built a new temple called Tiruvalan Koil at Tiruchanur near Tirupathi to house Lord Venkateswara. After that, in the 12th century, the Yadava Rayas dedicated the temple to Padmavati Devi.
The story goes that Lord Vishnu treated the sage Bhrigu respectfully, even though Bhrigu had used bad language toward Vishnu. In anger, Sri Maha Lakshmi sank herself into the Pushkarini on the banks of the Swarnamukhi River for 12 years.
She became a golden lotus in the 13th year, on the Panchami day of Kartika month. The temple signifies that Lord Venkateswara and Goddess Padmavathi are getting back together.
