Sri Veda Narayana Swamy Temple Nagalapuram is a well-known Vaishnava temple in Chittoor. The Veda Narayanaswami Temple is one of the best places to visit in Tirupati.
The Sri Veda Narayana Swamy temple is an excellent example of the Vijayanagar style of building. Its beautiful design makes it worth visiting during the Tirupati tour package. The kings of Vijayanagara, Krishnadeva Raya and Nagamamba are said to have built the Temple during the last few years of their rule at their mother's request.
People say that this spot was famous as Nagamambapuram back then. It is also said that the ruler could not finish the job because it began while his reign ended.
There are smaller shrines in the Temple for Kodanda Rama Swamy, Lakshmi Varaha swami, Venugopala Swamy, Lakshmi Narayan, Sri Hayagriva, and Vedavathi Thayar. The main Sanctum faces the mandapam, a massive room with many columns. Vigneshwara and other gods also have carvings on the outside wall of the Sanctum. Inside the main door, there is a flagpole.
Veda Narayanaswami Temple History
According to mythology, Lord Vishnu's first life was as a fish called "Matsyavatara." He fought Somaka the asura here and there to save the "Vedas." It was said that Maha Vishnu was frozen because he had been beneath for a long time. There is an idol of Sri Vedanarayana in this Temple that is said to be this very "Matsyavathara." It is half fish and half person.
The Cholas or the Pallavas built this ancient stone temple. You can see beautiful sculptures on the giant pillars in the Prakaram that go around the Sanctum. There is an image of Maha Vishnu here, with Sri Devi and Bhu Devi on either side of it. At its feet is the shape of a fish called Matsya. The figure has a Sudarsana Chakra.
Krishna Devaraya, the Vijayanagara ruler in the 15th century, is said to have built the Temple. It's at the request of his mothers, an excellent example of the Vijayanagara building style. In this picture, the figure has the Sudarshana Chakra in prayoprayeroga.
